چکیده

R-tree based spatial join is useful because of both its superior performance and the wide spread implementation of R-trees. We present a new R-tree join method called BFRJ (Breadth-First R-tree Join). BFRJ synchronously traverses both R-trees in breadthfirst order while processing join computation one level at a time. At each level, BFRJ creates an intermediate join index and deploys global optimization strategies (ordering, memory management, buffer management) to improve the join computation at the next level. We also present an experimental evaluation of the proposed optimizations as well as a performance comparison between BFRJ and the state-of-the-art approach. Our experimental results indicate that BFRJ with global optimizations can outperform the competitor by a significant margin (up to 50%). BFRJ: Global Optimization of Spatial Joins Using R-trees

Spatial joins are important operations in applications such as Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, and CAD/CAM. Spatial join using existing R-trees is a very useful and popular technique because of both its superior performance and the wide spread implementation of R-trees as spatial index structures. This paper describes a new spatial join method called BFRJ (BreadthFirst R-tree Join)...

An Experimental Analysis of Iterated Spatial Joins in Main Memory

Many modern applications rely on high-performance processing of spatial data. Examples include location-based services, games, virtual worlds, and scientific simulations such as molecular dynamics and behavioral simulations. These applications deal with large numbers of moving objects that continuously sense their environment, and their data access can often be abstracted as a repeated spatial ...

A Fast Algorithm for high-dimensional Similarity Joins

Many emerging data mining applications require a similarity join between points in a highdimensional domain. We present a new algorithm that utilizes a new index structure, called the -kdB tree, for fast spatial similarity joins on high-dimensional points. This index structure reduces the number of neighboring leaf nodes that are considered for the join test, as well as the traversal cost of nd...

Tree-Traversal Orientation Analysis

This paper presents a profiling-based analysis to determine the traversal orientation of link-based tree data structures. Given the very-high memory-hierarchy latencies in modern computers, once the compiler has identified that a pointer-based data structure represents a tree, it would be useful to determine the predominant orientation of traversal for the tree. Optimizing compilers can impleme...
